Obaseki wasn’t popular, I was brought to add value to his ticket – Deputy Gov Shaibu

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, revealed that he was convinced to join Governor Godwin Obaseki’s ticket during his run for governor. Shaibu, who has since fallen out with Obaseki as a result of his own gubernatorial ambitions for the 2024 election, claimed that he was brought in to enhance Obaseki’s political standing when he first contested for governor.

These comments were made during his interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show program, where he explained that it took nearly a month of persuasion for him to accept the position of deputy governor. Initially, Shaibu was reluctant and content with his role in the House of Representatives. However, he eventually yielded to the pressure and decided to join as Obaseki’s deputy.

Shaibu emphasized that his acceptance was primarily aimed at adding value to Obaseki’s ticket, as Obaseki lacked popularity and political experience. He pointed out that his presence was meant to bring youthful dynamism and electoral success to the ticket.
