Nyesom Wike: Tinubu has been a supportive figure

In a candid acknowledgment, Nyesom Wike has expressed his appreciation for the unyielding support he has received from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This support, he says, has been instrumental in his success as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, during a media parley with a select group of journalists to mark his one-year anniversary in office, Wike emphasized that President Tinubu has provided him with everything he needs to excel in his role as the FCT Minister.

Wike reassured that the president has refrained from meddling in the affairs of the FCT and has consistently stood by him in the tough decisions he has had to make during his tenure.

Describing the ongoing infrastructure development in the FCT as revolutionary, the Minister highlighted that such progress would not have been possible without the strong leadership and support of President Tinubu.

He also revealed that the president’s endorsement of initiatives such as the withdrawal of the FCT from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission, and the inclusion of youth and women in governance has been pivotal in translating the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda into tangible governance outcomes in the FCT.

According to Wike, “President Tinubu has provided me with all the necessary resources to effectively carry out my duties in the FCT. I have no excuses for underperformance as everything I need has been availed to me.”

“Fortunately, President Tinubu has never intervened in FCT matters. Not once. Sometimes, I make decisions that I know might not sit well with everyone, anticipating reprimand, but when I approach him, he affirms my actions, stating that I am in that position precisely to make such decisions. We need individuals of fortitude who can make decisive choices and stand by them. That’s why my team and I function smoothly. I am a minister who has no room for complaints.”
