Nollywood Actress Lisa Omorodion Criticizes AMVCA Organizers for Neglecting Plus Size Women on Best Dressed List

Lisa Omorodion, a prominent figure in the Nollywood industry, has strongly criticized the AMVCA organizers, alleging discrimination against plus size women in the fashion sector.

She expressed disappointment in the way the fashion industry constructs an idealized image of women’s clothing, emphasizing the injustice faced by naturally curvaceous women in Africa.

Omorodion revealed her dismay at the absence of any plus size women on the best-dressed list at the recently concluded Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) ceremony. She questioned the apparent exclusion of plus size women from the category of best dressed, implying favoritism towards slim individuals.

She further asserted her viewpoint in a statement:

The Fashion Industry constructs an idealized image of women’s clothing, often neglecting curvy and plus size women. This exclusionary practice becomes more evident when the best dressed lists consistently overlook plus size women. It’s disheartening to witness this discrimination in Africa, where women embrace their natural curves. Not a single plus size woman featured on the best dressed list at the AMVCA awards. Is style and best dressed list exclusively reserved for slim individuals?

We need to improve. The global Plus-size Fashion Industry holds a remarkable value of 20 billion dollars, with an annual growth rate twice that of the total clothing market. Consider the significance! This represents a buying power worth $20 billion. Inclusivity of all women in the fashion industry is imperative. Only then can we genuinely affirm that Fashion is democratic. To all the plus-size women, you are beautiful, stylish, fabulous, and worthy of every Best Dressed List.
