No plans to abolish patrol points in South East, FRSC clarifies

The FRSC Sets the Record Straight on Patrol Points in the South East

Addressing recent speculation, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) clarified on Sunday that there are no plans to abolish patrol points in the states of Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, and Enugu.

In a statement released by the FRSC Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, it was made clear that circulating reports suggesting the removal of patrol points are inaccurate.

Earlier reports on June 21 had indicated that the Zonal Commanding Officer of Zone 9 Headquarters in Enugu, Uche Chukwurah, had announced the abolition of static patrol points in the South East states.

During his visit to the Abia State Federal Road Safety Command Umuahia, Chukwurah explained that a shift to mobile patrol operations was being implemented, moving away from the static checkpoint style.

However, Ogungbemide clarified that Chukwurah’s statement was misunderstood and misleading.

According to Ogungbemide, the FRSC is not abolishing patrol points in the South East or anywhere else in the nation. The focus is on enhancing operational strategies and improving personnel capacity.

This enhancement includes the provision of operational vehicles, ambulances, and motorbikes, as well as retraining personnel for more effective rescue services. The goal is to expand daily patrol coverage and ensure a stronger presence on roadways.

FRSC’s efforts are geared towards enhancing road safety and aiding other security agencies by maintaining reliable driver and vehicle databases, with no intention to remove patrol points in the South East region.
