No going back on teachers’ aptitude test – Gov Namadi to protesters

Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has emphasized the necessity of the planned aptitude test for the employment of 3000 teaching staff as a means to ensure transparency. His statement comes in response to the recent protests by J-Teach members against the scheduled aptitude tests aimed at making them permanent employees. It was reported that the Jigawa State House of Assembly approved the absorption of 3000 J-Teach staff out of the 4,500 initially recruited.

The Jigawa State government had introduced the J-Teach program to address the existing teacher shortage in the state. Governor Namadi explained that the absorption of J-Teach staff into permanent teaching positions would be carried out in phases, with the initial phase targeting 3000 individuals out of the 4,500. He emphasized that the aptitude test was implemented to select the best candidates and ensure transparency in the recruitment process.

Governor Namadi also highlighted that the test was essential to guarantee the recruitment of only qualified candidates. Additionally, he assured that those who did not pass the test would continue to work as J-Teach staff and mentioned plans for their vocational training and empowerment. He further reiterated that no candidate outside the 4500 J-Teach staff would be recruited and disclosed that the new date for the aptitude test would be announced.
