Nnamdi Kanu’s Plea for Prayers to Prevent Excessive Deaths in Igboland

Expressing sorrow over the recent passing of prominent figures in Igbo land including Ohanaeze President-General Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, former Minister Ogbonnaya Onu, Senator Ifeanyi Uba, and Onyeka Onwenu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, emphasized the need for prayers to prevent a surge in deaths in the region.

He also urged against speaking negatively about Iwuanyanwu, Onu, Uba, and Onwenu, citing it as a violation of Igbo traditions.

During his regular meeting with his legal team at the Department of State Services facility in Abuja, Kanu shared these sentiments.

His lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, relayed Kanu’s message, stating: “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has instructed me to extend his sincere condolences to the families of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Senator Ifeanyi Uba, and Dame Onyeka Onwenu.”

“MNK is deeply saddened by their passing and urges the Igbo community to refrain from speaking ill of the departed, which goes against Igbo customs.”

“He perceives these recent deaths as too frequent and calls for prayers to prevent further loss of lives in the region.”

“Onyeka Onwenu, in particular, held a special place in Onyendu’s heart, as her advice was highly valued. MNK remembers her as a staunch advocate for freedom, living a fulfilled life that ensures her eternal rest.”
