Nigerians’ reaction to Aisha Buhari’s call for parents to stay at home with kids

The First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari, expressed that closing schools is not enough to prevent the spread of coronavirus as parents still have to go to work, which can lead to them infecting their children.

She took to Twitter to convey her concern, stating, “It is commendable that state governors have closed down schools; however, this could be counterproductive if parents are still going to work. We should not isolate students and expose their parents. Let us remember that they will meet at home. #TotalLockDown #StayAtHome.”

However, Nigerians responded by questioning the government’s plans to support citizens who may be unable to work and provide for their families if required to stay at home.

@Alvin_IME wrote: “One question please, how do they stay at home when there is no electricity supply, how do they feed without working to gain wages because I know, I KNOW that the government can’t take care of everyone, let’s be truthful and realistic with ourselves.”

@Zayyanklg wrote: “Stay at home with no light and the weather is extremely hot!”

@Soloawo wrote: “The Nigerian @NGRPresident government should make available about $1 billion to Nigerians through GEEP PROGRAM platform @geep_ng . They can call it COVID 19 bailout money or whatever. It’s satanic to restrict people’s movement without access to food at home.”
