Nigerians have a wrong perception of lawmakers pocketing a lot of money despite doing little – Buhari

President Buhari has dismissed the idea that lawmakers are “overly paid for doing a little job”, labeling it as a misconception. He made this statement during the launch of the Green Chamber magazine held in Abuja. Represented by Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed on Wednesday, February 19, the President emphasized that the misperception about lawmakers is due to a lack of understanding of the work they do.

According to the President, the prevailing public perception of the national assembly as a place where members are “overly comfortable and highly overpaid” is a misconception arising from the lack of awareness of the extensive work of lawmakers, particularly beyond the public eye. President Buhari praised the magazine as an “authoritative source” for information on the activities of the house, and a means to keep the public well-informed about their work. He also emphasized the importance of the magazine in allowing the house to articulate its own narrative rather than depending on others to do so, noting that “no one can tell your story better than you”.
