Nigerians come together across different lines in the fight to end hunger – Accord Party

The End Bad Governance protest, which began on August 1, 2024, has been assessed by the Accord Party in terms of its benefits and drawbacks.

As reported by NewsNow, today marked the start of the #EndBadGovernance protest, representing the voice and determination of the Nigerian populace.

According to Accord, the protest is not just a plea for change but a strong expression of our collective yearning for a better Nigeria.

In a statement released on Thursday, Barrister Maxwell Mgbedum, the National Chairman of Accord, acknowledged that the protest has triggered a significant level of awareness among Nigerians.

Describing the protest’s impact, the statement expressed, “The unity observed among Nigerians across diverse ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds is remarkable. It underscores our common objective of seeking good governance. This unity possesses the potential to instigate positive transformation and enhance national unity.”

“The protest has prompted government officials and institutions to be more answerable and transparent,” it added.

“The call for improved governance has intensified scrutiny on public offices, compelling officials to prioritize the public interest”

“Youth have taken a lead role in this movement, showcasing leadership and resilience. The protest has empowered them to articulate their concerns and shape the nation’s future.”

The statement also acknowledged the disruptions to daily routines and business operations, resulting in economic losses and inconveniences for many citizens. It emphasized the need to handle these disruptions efficiently to minimize their impact.

Highlighting incidents of clashes between protesters and security forces leading to injuries and loss of life, Accord stressed the importance of ensuring a peaceful protest and urging security personnel to exercise restraint to prevent further violence.

“While the protest has united many, it has also revealed deep divisions within our society. Resolving these divisions and fostering inclusive dialogue that considers diverse viewpoints is crucial.”

“The prolonged nature of the protest may strain the economy, particularly in sectors already weakened by global challenges. Balancing the pursuit of justice with the imperative of maintaining economic stability is vital.”

“The #EndBadGovernance protest marks a pivotal moment in our nation’s journey. It symbolizes a people’s refusal to be subdued and their demand for a government that truly serves them. Amidst the complexities of this movement, let us bear in mind the overarching objective – to construct a Nigeria that upholds justice, equality, and prosperity for all.”

“I urge all stakeholders – government, civil society, and citizens – to engage in constructive dialogue and collaborate towards a brighter future. May this protest ignite significant change, and may the sacrifices made today pave the way for a better tomorrow.”
