Nigerian national arrested with cocaine worth N12.6m in India

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch’s Anti Narcotics Cell has detained a 31-year-old Nigerian citizen for allegedly being a key provider of high-grade cocaine to wealthy customers in Mumbai.

Chukwuma Nwaeke, the accused, was apprehended by the ANC on Tuesday, July 5. During a routine patrol on the Air India Road in Santacruz, east, the ANC’s Bandra unit intercepted Nwaeke and discovered cocaine valued at Rs. 24 lakh (N12,606) in his possession.

Datta Nalawade, ANC’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, stated that Nwaeke was found in possession of 80 grams of cocaine worth Rs. 24 lakh. Consequently, Nwaeke was arrested and charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Further investigations revealed Nwaeke’s involvement as a significant supplier of high-quality cocaine to affluent individuals. Additionally, the police discovered that he had previously been arrested in a similar case by the Saki Naka police in 2014.

Nalawade also suggested the existence of a larger supply network in which Nwaeke is involved. It is suspected that numerous other Nigerian nationals are part of this network, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend them.
