Nigerian Man Apprehended in India for Defrauding Woman of N18m with Promise of Canadian Job Visa

A Nigerian man has been apprehended in India for deceiving a woman out of Rs 17 lakhs with promises of a job visa to Canada.

The arrested individual, identified as Moses, has been a DJ residing in Bengaluru since 2014.

A team led by Wayanad Cyber Police Station Inspector Shaju Joseph apprehended the accused from Bengaluru on Christmas Eve.

According to authorities, Moses utilized the woman’s personal details, provided on a private website, to commit the fraudulent act.

In the previous October, the woman had disclosed her personal information while searching for a medical coding job.

Subsequently, after acquiring her personal details from a website, the perpetrator corresponded with the victim via email and WhatsApp, pretending to be a visa agent.

By presenting evidence of her details on an immigration site and the flight ticket he purportedly booked for her to Canada, he gained her trust.

Relying on his assurances, she transferred Rs 17 lakhs to his account.

However, as Moses continued to demand more money, the woman became suspicious and lodged a complaint at the Wayanad Cyber Police Station.

To date, the police have recovered Rs 6 lakh from the perpetrator, using his device’s IP address and tracing his online transactions.

The DJ artist has been linked to several online frauds over the years.

Moses only conducted a single DJ event in a month, dedicating the rest of his time to fraudulent activities.

Authorities have seized multiple devices from his possession.
