Nigerian Government to be Held Accountable for Igbomustgo – Statement by Ejiofor

In a recent interaction with reporters in Owerri, lawyer and human rights activist Ifeanyi Ejiofor emphasized that the Federal Government should be held accountable for the #Igbomustgo campaign in Lagos.

Ejiofor suggested that the campaign could be linked to a statement made by President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Ononuga, in relation to the 2023 Presidential campaign.

He noted that the originator of the #IgboMustGo movement may have collaborators in this agenda.

“The harsh and ethnically charged statements made against the Igbo community by Onanuga on social media have not been forgotten,” Ejiofor stated.

Currently serving as a Special Adviser to President Tinubu, Onanuga’s divisive rhetoric appears to be influencing others in power.

“Onanuga’s threats towards the Igbo community in Lagos, warning of severe consequences if they did not support Tinubu, have led to physical attacks, deaths, and destruction of Igbo-owned properties under the pretext of breaching the city’s master plan,” he continued.

“These ongoing threats, seemingly endorsed by influential figures, have the potential to escalate into widespread violence if not addressed promptly,” Ejiofor warned.

“I am convinced that this is a meticulously planned scheme, and I urge our Igbo brethren in Lagos to stay alert,” Ejiofor added.

“This plot appears to have the support of those in authority and should not be underestimated,” he alleged.
