Nigerian army warns foreign agencies against meddling in fight against Boko Haram

The fight against Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) is a significant concern for the Nigerian army, which has recently cautioned foreign agencies and countries against getting involved. In a statement released on Monday January 20 by the Nigerian Army Operations Media Coordinator Colonel Aminu Iliyasu, the Nigerian Armed Forces emphasized the notable progress made in the battle against insurgency.

Though the statement did not directly mention any specific entity, it issued a warning to foreign agencies, countries, and individuals against taking actions or making statements that could hinder the country’s peace restoration efforts.

The statement, quoting the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, acknowledged the troops’ renewed determination and commitment, yielding positive outcomes in the fight against the insurgents. It urged all parties, both local and foreign, to demonstrate more restraint and commitment on matters concerning national security, emphasizing the need to support the collective effort to restore peace and harmony in Nigeria.

The Chief of Army Staff also expressed unwavering support for the troops and assured that their sacrifices will not be in vain. Furthermore, the statement warned those who delight in the sufferings of innocent citizens that their day of reckoning is near. It called on all well-meaning Nigerians, especially those in the North East, and friends of Nigeria to fully support the counter-insurgency operations and the broader fight against criminal activities in the nation.
