Nigeria Prime for Local Policing, Promises to Curtail Insecurity – Primate Ayodele

Emphasizing the need for state policing, Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, stated on Tuesday that Nigeria is now at a stage where local policing can effectively tackle the country’s insecurity challenges.

This statement was in response to the comments made by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, regarding the establishment of state police units.

Contrary to Egbetokun’s assertion on Monday that Nigeria is not yet prepared for state policing, Primate Ayodele firmly believes that with proper implementation, local policing could significantly enhance law enforcement by providing crucial intelligence at the grassroots level to safeguard the lives of Nigerian citizens.

In an announcement made by his media representative, Oluwatosin Osho, the spiritual leader highlighted that introducing state police could lead to increased job opportunities. He added that when effectively utilized for the benefit of the people, this move could alleviate the security situation in the country.

According to Primate Ayodele, “Nigeria is grappling with numerous security challenges, but the deployment of state police will bring about positive changes. Properly executed, this initiative will enhance law enforcement efforts by offering local insights and quicker responses to address insecurity nationwide.”

Furthermore, he advised the Nigerian government to ensure a well-managed process to prevent potential misuse by politicians and state governors for personal gains.

He urged, “The government must focus on adequate funding and effective administration to prevent any misuse for personal or political agendas. Nigeria is ready for state policing; the emphasis should be on proper funding and ensuring that it serves the interests of the public without infringing on their rights.”
