The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has issued a notice requiring all entities, including businesses, educational institutions, healthcare providers, and other organizations that collect personal data, to register in compliance with Section 5(d) of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.

If an entity collects and processes personal data, whether for commercial or non-commercial purposes, such as students’ records, client information, patient details, or customer data, they are obligated to register as a Data Controller or Data Processor.

Registration can be completed through the official NDPC Registration Portal at www.service.ndpc.gov.ng from January 30th, 2024, to June 30th, 2024. Failure to register within this period will result in penalties, as processing personal data without proper registration is illegal under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.
