Nigeria Customs Chief, Adeniyi, Highlights Government’s Plan to Boost Food Production on 10 Million Hectares

During a book launch at Customs Headquarters in Abuja, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has set a target of cultivating 10 million hectares of land to enhance food production for ensuring food security in Nigeria.

Adeniyi emphasized the government’s commitment to food security, mentioning that Tinubu’s government has taken significant actions to tackle the current challenge of high food prices. This includes the removal of tariffs and import duties on essential staples like rice, wheat, maize, and sorghum for a period of six months.

Addressing the initiative, Adeniyi expressed, “An ambitious goal has been set to cultivate over 10 million hectares of land for food production. This endeavor not only aims to strengthen our food security but also intends to make use of our vast arable land, of which only 40 percent is presently utilized.”

Earlier, the government had announced a 150-day zero import duty waiver on selected staple foods to drive down prices.
