NEWS ALERT: Emeka Anyaoku proposes a fresh constitution for Nigeria

Chief Emeka Anyaoku, the former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, met with President Bola Tinubu on Friday alongside other opinion leaders to advocate for a new Constitution for Nigeria.

Operating under The Patriot umbrella, the group emphasized the urgent need for a new Constitution to tackle the ongoing challenges facing the nation.

Anyaoku stated that the current constitution is inadequate to lead the country towards progress and is a significant factor contributing to the existing social and economic difficulties.

Following the meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House, the group addressed the State House Correspondents.

Accompanying Anyaoku to the Presidential Villa were other members of the group such as Senator Shehu Sani, Mike Ozekhome, Labaran Maku, Senator Ben Obi, and Segun Osoba.

They proposed that President Tinubu promptly submit a presidential bill to the National Assembly, enabling the establishment of a constituent assembly tasked with drafting a new Constitution that considers the diversity of the country.

Furthermore, they suggested that the draft constitution should undergo a National referendum for public approval, aiming to address various challenges within the country.

The group, confident that a new constitution can be formulated within nine months, believes that the current document is accountable for the nation’s woes.
