New constables to serve in their LGAs – IGP

The Inspector General of Police, Alkali Usman, has instructed that all 10,000 newly recruited constables who finished their training on Wednesday, July 6, should be deployed to their respective local government areas to enhance community policing.

Alkali, who was represented by Mr. Ede Ayuba, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 8, at the passing out ceremony of 467 Constables in Ilorin, Kwara state, stated that the recruitment of police officers is part of the effort to address the prevalent security challenges in the country.

He emphasized the intention to increase the Police staff strength by recruiting 10,000 fresh officers annually, with the goal of reaching a combined strength of 650,000. According to him, this recruitment initiative is aimed at bridging the gap created by the retirement of personnel and filling the shortage of police officers in the country.

Alkali also urged the new police personnel to regard Nigerians as their employers and to exhibit the professionalism they were trained for. He emphasized the need for them to handle citizens with care and respect, reminding them that their salaries are funded by the taxes of Nigerians.
