Network Outage Hits MTN Users, Company Points Finger at Fiber Cuts

Subscribers of MTN’s telecommunications network are currently experiencing a service disruption, unable to place calls or access the internet through the network.

The issue stems from network challenges reported by MTN, attributing the problem to “major service outage caused by multiple fibre cuts affecting voice and data services.”

MTN has assured customers that their engineers are diligently working to fix the problem, with services gradually coming back online in some areas.

“We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while our team strives to restore full service as quickly as possible,” stated the network provider.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Communications Commission has reiterated its directive for telecom operators to deactivate phone lines not linked to National Identification Numbers by February 28, 2024.

Speaking at the NCC’s Special Day during the 45th Kaduna International Trade Fair, Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, reaffirmed the deadline for telecom operators to comply with the NIN-SIM linkage requirement.

“The NCC has instructed all telecommunication operators to deactivate phone lines of subscribers without linked NINs by February 28, 2024,” he emphasized.
