NCDMB Aims for 70% Local Content in Petroleum Industry

Felix Ogbe, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, has set the target of achieving 70% Nigerian content in the oil and gas sector by 2027.

During his visit to BEAMCO Nigeria Limited’s facilities in Lagos, Ogbe praised the oil and gas service firm for its advancements in equipment component manufacturing.

He commended Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited, Saipem-Daewoo Joint Venture, and BEAMCO Limited for their efforts in enhancing in-country value addition.

Ogbe revealed that locally assembled pumps and valves are ready for installation and pre-inauguration preparations on the NLNG Train-7 project on Bonny Island, Rivers State.

At the load-out ceremony at BEAMCO’s Apapa facility in Lagos, the NCDMB boss highlighted that the sourcing of these critical components locally was made possible through the Equipment Component Manufacturing Initiative launched by the NCDMB in 2013.

He explained that the initiative mandated the Nigerian Content Equipment Certificate as a requirement for participating in equipment supply within the oil and gas industry.

Furthermore, implementation of the initiative led NLNG, through its main contractor Saipem-Daewoo, to award a contract to BEAMCO for supplying pumps and control valves in accordance with NCDMB’s approved vendor list for the NLNG Train-7 project.

Ogbe expressed pride in BEAMCO’s commitment to delivering quality pumps and valves as scheduled, emphasizing how the Nigerian business environment facilitates manufacturing and assembly.

He also noted how the company’s achievements align with recent Presidential Directives on Local Content implementation, stressing the importance of awarding oil and gas contracts to local companies with proven capabilities in-country.

Assuring continued support for BEAMCO, Ogbe emphasized the NCDMB’s commitment to aiding the company in expanding its capabilities, including backward integration in pump and valve components manufacturing in Nigeria.

Ogbe promised purpose-driven companies within the oil and gas subsector that collaborative efforts would lead to more industry milestones, as part of the collective goal to achieve 70% Nigerian Content by 2027.

Among other components and accessories showcased at the event were four pumps (2 Reflux pumps and 2 Amine booster pumps) and five valves (two Mark 100 valves; one Mark One valve and two flowtop valves).
