NARD urges release of fellow doctor held captive for seven months

Urgent calls are being made by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) for the release of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a resident doctor at the National Eye Centre in Kaduna, who has been in captivity for seven months.

Dr. Ganiyat Popoola was abducted on December 27, 2023, along with her husband and nephew.

While her husband was freed after a ransom was paid, Dr. Ganiyat Popoola and her nephew are still being held by their abductors.

NARD has been using social media to raise awareness within the medical community and appeal for the immediate release of their colleague.

Under the campaign hashtag #BringBackDrGaniyat, the association is striving to secure the safe return of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola.

One of the social media posts emphasized the prolonged duration of captivity, stating, “It has been 7 months, not 7 minutes, that a mother, sister, aunt, wife, and helper have been in captivity. Please Bring Back Dr. Ganiyat.”

Expressing concern, another post highlighted the plight of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola and her nephew, who have been captive for over six months since the kidnapping in December 2023.

NARD is urgently seeking assistance to ensure the safe release and return of their fellow doctor.
