Nantes boss concerned about Simon’s injury

Expressing worries over Moses Simon’s fitness for the upcoming 2024/25 season, Nantes manager Antoine Kombouaré revealed concerns after the Super Eagles forward suffered an ankle injury in a friendly match against Laval, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.

With Simon scoring the decisive goal from a penalty in the 60th minute, leading the Canaries to a 2-1 victory, their focus now shifts to the next game against Lorient on Wednesday.

Despite completing the full 90 minutes, Kombouaré, as cited by the Nantes Tribune, confirmed the 29-year-old’s ankle setback in the match.

This injury marks the second setback for the Eagles star this year, sparking worries about his physical condition.

In Kombouaré’s words, “The two little worries are Simon (Moses) with his ankle still giving me problems and then little Adel (Mahamoud), who hurt his knee. I hope it’s not too serious,” as reported by the Nantes Tribune.

Towards the end of the 2023/24 season, Simon endured a fractured fibula, sidelining him for three months and prematurely concluding his season.

This injury also led to his absence in Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifying games against South Africa and Benin Republic, resulting in a draw against the Bafana Bafana and a surprising loss to the Cheetahs.

His impact was sorely missed in these crucial matches, putting the Super Eagles at risk of being without him again in the upcoming rematch against Benin Republic.
