Nancy Pelosi’s Controversial Act at Trump’s State of the Union Address

During the 2020 US State of the Union address, a dramatic moment occurred as the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, was captured on camera tearing up a printed copy of President Donald Trump’s speech.

This action followed President Trump’s address to the lawmakers, where he highlighted the progress of his administration since taking office.

In his speech, President Trump emphasized the positive outcomes of his presidency, citing economic growth, reduced poverty and crime, increased confidence, and improved standing in the international community.

Despite applause from lawmakers at the end of the speech, Nancy Pelosi tore up the printed copy and placed the shredded pieces on the dais as Trump greeted members of Congress.

When questioned about her act, Pelosi explained, “It was the courteous thing to do given the alternative.”

During the speech, Pelosi also expressed disagreement by subtly shaking her head when Trump made certain promises and claims.

It’s important to note that Pelosi presided over the House when it impeached Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress in 2019.
