Mysterious deaths in Jigawa state: Over 100 people, mostly above 50 years old, pass away within 10 days

The Jigawa state government is currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the mysterious deaths of more than 100 individuals in Hadeja local government area within the state.

 

Confirming this to the press, Sani Kakabori, the Special Assistant to the Local Council Chairman on Media, revealed that an average of ten people, mostly over the age of fifty, have been passing away each day over the past ten days in the local government.

 

Meanwhile, Dr. Abba Zakari Committee, the State Chairman of the COVID-19 Task Force and also the Commissioner of Health, has assembled an investigation team led by Dr. Mahmud Abdulwahab, with Shehu Mohammad, Yusuf Hakimi, Shehu Sule, and a representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) as members. The team’s mission is to uncover the causes of these mysterious deaths.

 

The Commissioner stated that the committee is expected to submit their findings within three days.

 

These deaths have raised concerns about the possibility of coronavirus community spread in the state.

 

This development arises while Kano state is still grappling with unexplained deaths. Dr. Nasiru Gwarzo, the leader of the Presidential Task Force committee on COVID-19, recently revealed that the mysterious deaths in Kano were caused by the novel virus.

 

Jigawa state has reported 39 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
