Mr Ibu’s view on the absence of COVID-19 in Nigeria

According to Nigerian Comic actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, he believes that the life-threatening pandemic, Coronavirus, is not present in Nigeria.

He expressed his disbelief in the existence of COVID-19 in Nigeria in an interview with The Nation. Mr Ibu stated that he is unconcerned about the disease as he has not come across anyone who has been infected with or has succumbed to the novel viral disease.

“Nigeria, we are not supposed to be involved in this COVID-19. I see no reason why we should be involved. Only Nigerians in diaspora will have to partake in this devilish program.

We at home are oblivious, we are not supposed to be involved in any ceremony in trying to pretend or in trying to avoid. COVID-19 or 20 is not here, I don’t care. Why would China give us sickness and America embellish the technicality and then sell it to the world and people now begin to die when they know it’s killing. Thank God we have hot weather, the thing sef dey fear us.

I am not afraid; I go about my business without fear. There have been no fatalities in this area, and in other areas as well, no deaths. Even in the stadium, no deaths. Let’s be sorry for ourselves.

I’m telling everybody, not just the government, say only what you know, do not exaggerate it. We call sickness upon ourselves in Nigeria. Sickness comes and goes on its own, but we are the ones labeling it in Nigeria. You won’t see COVID-19 because it’s not here.”

Regarding the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria and the activities of the NCDC, Mr. Ibu commented,

“Do you know anyone?

Have you attended a funeral where they claim COVID-19 was the cause of death? Have you been to the hospital and the doctors said the person was being held by COVID-19? Have you ever known a family that stated COVID-19 killed one of their members the previous day? You can’t because all you hear is hearsay. Even the disease fears us.

“Are they not human beings? Let them show us a picture of at least one person killed by COVID-19 and we can find that person’s family.

COVID, whatever it is, is not in Nigeria. We have hot weather that scares the disease away, just as it avoids us. It has negatively impacted many industries in the country and has driven us away from work due to lies and rumors. I would have starved to death if not for the assistance from good-hearted people.”
