Most Nollywood actors lift themselves by using sugar daddies and mummies – Wale Adenuga says as he reveals that the film industry in Nigeria is not profitable

The film industry in Nigeria is described as unprofitable by Wale Adenuga, the chairman of Pefti Film Institute. He disclosed this over the weekend in Ibadan, expressing that the Federal Government’s efforts in providing loans for film making are inadequate. Adenuga advocated for a complete restructuring of the sector, criticizing the lack of an organized association to govern the activities of actors and moviemakers. He pointed out that many actors and actresses in Nollywood live lavish lifestyles financed by sources outside of the film industry, and criticized the industry’s lack of structure and professionalism. Adenuga warned of potential disasters ahead for the industry if deliberate efforts are not made to address the problems. He also highlighted the elitist nature of existing cinemas and emphasized the need for community cinema houses to make movies more accessible to the general public.
