Minister of Defence Encourages Dialogues with Protest Planners

Encouraging a shift in approach, Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar has urged the conveners of the planned protest to consider engaging in dialogue with the Federal Government.

He highlighted that the reforms implemented by President Tinubu are already showing positive outcomes, with the country’s economy gradually moving towards recovery.

In a press release issued by the Ministry of Defence’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Henshaw Ogubike, on Tuesday in Abuja, it was emphasized that President Tinubu’s administration remains committed to addressing the needs of Nigerians.

The Minister pointed out that the recent economic growth in Q1 2024 marked the second-fastest first-quarter growth in the past six years, attributing it to the reforms initiated by the President.

Discussing the improvements in national security, he mentioned the successful measures taken to enhance safety and security, including the reopening of previously closed roads and the resolution of herders and farmers conflicts through the establishment of the Livestock Ministry.

Abubakar also highlighted the arrest of high-profile terrorist leaders and the surrendering of many terrorists, underscoring the government’s commitment to tackling security challenges.

He further elaborated on various initiatives, such as the Nigerian Student Loan Scheme aimed at boosting access to higher education, the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund for funding key infrastructure projects, and the implementation of the National Minimum Wage Act to improve workers’ welfare.

The Minister noted the efforts to stabilize the economy, including enabling crude oil sales to local refining companies in naira and granting autonomy to local governments to strengthen grassroots governance.

He highlighted the numerous support schemes extended to states and individuals, including palliatives, grants, and loan opportunities, demonstrating the government’s commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of Nigerians.

Abubakar also mentioned the launch of the Compressed Natural Gas initiative, aimed at reducing transportation costs significantly and unlocking the country’s potential in the gas sector.

As the CNG conversion centers proliferate nationwide, job opportunities are on the rise, further boosting economic prospects.
