Minister Alake: Government Change Attempted by Protesters

According to Mr. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, the sponsors of the #EndBadGovernance protest aimed to bring about a change in governance within the country.

Alake also claimed that they were scheming to disrupt the nation’s democracy, but fortunately, the Nigerian people resisted this effort.

This statement was made following the Council of State meeting, which saw the presence of two former presidents, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.

Characterizing the event, Alake refrained from labeling it as a mere protest but rather as a calculated endeavor to instigate a change in government.

He expressed, “I consider it a movement intended to forcibly alter the regime, a move that was met with opposition.

“The Council expressed gratitude to Nigerians for opposing any unconstitutional attempts to change the government. If anyone is discontent with the current administration, there will be upcoming elections where they can exercise their voting rights.”

“During the briefing by the NSA, the security situation was addressed, alleviating concerns across the board,” he added.

He further reassured that the security measures in place across the nation were robust and emphasized the protection of Nigeria’s democracy.

“Any changes in government must be carried out through legitimate means and not through violence, uprising, or any unconstitutional methods. The only valid way to alter a government is through the ballot box. He emphasized the preparedness of security agencies to maintain national security and safeguard the democracy of Nigeria,” Alake concluded.
