Mike Silber joins MTN as Regulatory Officer

Effective April 1, 2024, Mike Silber has been appointed as the Group Executive Regulatory Officer at MTN Group.

This information was disclosed in a statement released on the company’s website on Friday.

Prior to joining MTN Group, Silber served as the Group Chief Regulatory Officer at Liquid Telecom for a period of five years.

MTN highlighted that during Silber’s time at Liquid Telecom, he played a key role in establishing and expanding Africa’s most comprehensive cross-border fiber network and the largest networked data center operations on the continent.

Noting his contributions, the telco stated, “These accomplishments underscore his dedication to enhancing Africa’s digital landscape and his skill in navigating the intricate legal, policy, and regulatory hurdles to drive business success and enhance connectivity.”

The Chief Legal and Regulatory Officer at MTN Group, Lele Modise, commented, “Mike’s extensive background in legal expertise and regulatory leadership in Africa and beyond positions him as a valuable addition to our team.

“His enthusiasm for connecting Africa digitally and globally aligns closely with MTN’s mission.

With over 25 years of experience in the telecommunications and internet sectors, Silber brings a wealth of legal, policy, and regulatory expertise to address business challenges and devise innovative solutions to deliver tangible outcomes.

Silber, a South African attorney, is a holder of B.Proc. and LLB degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand.

His diverse experience includes board positions at several industry organizations such as ISPA South Africa and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, in addition to his affiliation with the LINK Centre at Wits.

MTN also highlighted his contributions to the boards of the Tertiary Education and Research Network of South Africa and the Public Interest Registry.

The company expressed optimism that Silber’s substantial contributions will further the group’s vision of spearheading digital solutions for the progress of Africa.
