Messi attains the 700 goals milestone in Barcelona’s 2-2 draw with Atletico Madrid (see photos)

Lionel Messi, the star of Barcelona football, scored a goal against Atletico Madrid in the La Liga match on June 30. This marked his 700th professional career goal, achieved just a week after turning 33.

The Argentina captain successfully converted a goal after 50 minutes, giving his team a 2-1 lead against Diego Simeone’s team.

Atletico’s two goals were through penalties by Saul Niguez, while Barca’s first scored through a Diego Costa own goal, and Messi scored in the second half.

Barcelona is now one point behind Real Madrid in second place, having played one game more than their rivals. Atletico Madrid is two points clear of Sevilla and remains in third place, 11 points behind Barca.

Messi has now scored 630 goals for Barcelona, making him the club’s all-time top scorer by a significant margin, with another 70 goals in international matches for Argentina.

Messi, alongside Ronaldo (who has 725 career goals), joins a select group of football legends such as Josef Bican, Romario, Pele, Ferenc Puskas, and Gerd Muller who have scored over 700 goals in their careers.
