A gathering of Southern Governors’ Forum is currently taking place in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, with the attendance of ten governors.

The venue for the meeting is the presidential Lodge, Ibara housing in Abeokuta.

Leading the group of early attendees is Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, who is also the Chairman of the South West Governors’ Forum. He was warmly welcomed by the host governor, Dapo Abiodun.

Among the governors who have arrived are Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Alex Otti (Abia), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), and Bassey Otu (Cross River).

Additionally, the Deputy Governors present include Chinyere Ekomaru (Imo), Monday Onyeme (Delta), and Olayide Adelami (Ondo).

The meeting is expected to be attended by governors from all 17 Southern States.

Although the specific agenda of the meeting is not yet disclosed, this marks the first gathering of Southern Governors following the passing of the late Rotimi Akeredolu, the former Governor of Ondo State, who chaired the forum until his demise.

After Akeredolu’s demise in December 2023, a new chairman for the forum has not been elected yet.
