Mastercard Foundation appoints new board member

The Mastercard Foundation has announced the appointment of Carole Wainaina to its Board of Directors.

In a statement made available to NewsNow on Tuesday, Wainaina has a 35-year career spanning multinationals and multilateral organisations.

The chair of the Board of Directors at the Mastercard Foundation, Zein Abdalla, expressed his enthusiasm about Wainaina joining the Board.

“I am delighted to welcome Carole Wainaina to our Board of Directors. The Mastercard Foundation is executing a bold strategy to create economic opportunities for young people in Africa and Indigenous youth in Canada. Carole’s experience in the public and private sectors, global networks, and knowledge of the African continent will be invaluable,” Abdalla said.

Wainaina, currently serving as Senior Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer at Africa50 and Non-Executive Director at various organisations, expressed her delight at joining the Mastercard Foundation’s Board.

“I look forward to working with a dynamic team advancing education and financial inclusion to create opportunities for young people, build stronger communities, and contribute to more inclusive economies. Wainaina’s distinguished career includes roles such as COO of Africa50, Assistant Secretary-General for Human Resources at the United Nations, and board member positions in the philanthropic sector, including Impact International and Harvard Business School Africa Research Board.
