Manchester United secures deal with 16-year-old Nigerian striker Shola Shoretire

Youthful Nigerian striker, Shola Shoretire, has committed his future to Manchester United by signing a deal with the club.

 

Shola, who is eligible to represent Nigeria and England, has agreed to scholarship forms with Manchester United until next year when he will become a professional player for the club, turning down offers from various European clubs.

 

Before the start of this season, Shoretire was elevated to United’s U18 team and has participated in 12 matches in the U18 Premier League.

On December 12, 2018, Shola made history as the youngest Manchester United player to feature in a UEFA Youth League and Cup game at the age of 14 years and 314 days when he came on as a substitute against Valencia U19s.

Following his goal for the Under 18 team in the win over Wigan, Shola’s Under-18 coach, Neil Ryan, commented on his dedication, saying: “He was at school today, all day! Then he came over to Old Trafford to play.”

“It’s incredible really. A different day for him compared to other players.”

“We want to keep them humble, hard-working,” he added.
