Man Charged with New Year’s Day Double Murder of Estranged Wife and Her Lover

A husband has been accused of murdering his estranged wife and her new lover, both of whom were found stabbed to death on New Year’s Day. 

 

39-year-old Helen Hancock was discovered dead with her 48-year-old partner, Martin Griffiths, at a property in the affluent village of Duffield, shortly after she had left her husband and was ‘getting her life back together’. 

 

In the days leading up to the gruesome knife attack, Helen had contacted Derbyshire Police for assistance at her residence.

Helen’s estranged husband, Rhys Hancock, a 39-year-old headteacher, is scheduled to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court on Friday morning (Jan. 3) to face charges for the double murder of his wife and her partner, who was a father of two.

 

The grieving families of the deceased couple have taken to social media to express their condolences. 

 

Relatives of Ms. Almey stated: ‘The family is heartbroken by the loss of Helen, who was a wonderful, beautiful, sociable, and outgoing individual’.

 

Meanwhile, loved ones of Mr. Griffiths shared: ‘Martin was a fantastic father, husband, son, brother, and uncle, who had a passion for adventure, running, and a love for animals. He enjoyed exploring the world, climbing mountains, and spending time with his two children. He will be deeply missed’.
