Man Arrested for Kidnapping Six-Year-Old in Katsina

Authorities from the Katsina State Police Command have apprehended a 21-year-old man named Halilu Yusuf for the alleged abduction of a six-year-old boy.

Speaking to reporters in Katsina on Wednesday, police spokesperson ASP Abubakar Aliyu shared this information.

He stated, “On August 17, at approximately 2pm, acting on reliable intelligence, the command successfully arrested Halilu Yusuf, 21, from Gezawa, near Shinkafi village, in connection with a suspected case of kidnapping involving a six-year-old.”

According to him, the suspect enticed and kidnapped the child, who was actually the son of his mentor, from Kofar-Sauri quarters, and demanded a ransom of N2 million from the father.

Aliyu revealed that the suspect spent the night with the boy in his room, then moved him to another location for safekeeping, unaware that police officers were tracking him.

The police spokesperson explained that the suspect called the father anonymously and informed him of his son’s abduction.

“Upon receiving the report, the command swiftly mobilized officers under the leadership of the DPO GRA, Katsina, and sprang into action.

“The team successfully located and arrested the suspect, and the child was rescued unharmed,” he stated.

He also mentioned that during the investigation, the suspect admitted to committing the crime.

Aliyu stated that once the investigation is concluded, the suspect will face charges in court.
