LP, PDP fight for 4,618 votes in Enugu South rerun

LP and PDP candidates, Emeka Ngene and Sam Ngene, are competing for 4,618 votes in the Enugu South Urban State Constituency rerun election. The Court of Appeal ordered the rerun due to irregularities and Emeka Ngene, the current member of the State House of Assembly, won the previous election with 5,862 votes.

Sam Ngene, also known as Anointed David, was the former Chairman of Enugu State Assembly Committee on Health and is contesting against Emeka Ngene for the seat. Both candidates, who share the same surname but are not related, are conducting extensive door-to-door campaigns to secure votes within the Uwani area of Enugu, where the ward in contention exists.

The rerun election will involve 4,618 eligible voters in one Registration Area and eight polling units. INEC’s Head of Voters Education and Publicity Department, Rex Achumie, stated that the election would be held between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and all technological devices of INEC would be deployed, including Bimodal Voters Accreditation System and INEC Election Result Viewing Portal.

Sam Ngene expressed his preparations for the election with door-to-door and one-on-one campaigning, while Emeka Ngene’s build-up to the election day was not immediately available for comment. INEC reassured that they are ready to conduct free, fair, and credible rerun elections and have made adequate arrangements to ensure a hitch-free process.
