Online photos depict empty departure halls and a small number of passengers undergoing security and health checks. The approved airlines have reported minimal bookings since the announcement of the airport reopening.

In March, the Nigerian airspace was shut down as part of the measures to curb the spread of Coronavirus within the country.

On July 1, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, unveiled the reopening of domestic flights in the country. In the statement, he specified that the domestic operations at the Abuja and Lagos airports would resume on July 8, while the Kano, Port Harcourt, Owerri, and Maiduguri airports would resume on the 11th. Furthermore, other airports are anticipated to resume operations on the 15th. The date for the resumption of international airports will be announced later, as stated by the Minister.
