Local Government Elections Scheduled for November 16 in Ogun State

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has announced that elections to fill the positions of chairmen for the 20 local governments and councilors for the 236 wards will be conducted on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

Following the expiration of the tenure of the local government chairmen on July 26, 2024, the Heads of Local Government Administrations (HOLGAs) have been overseeing the affairs of the council areas.

Chairman of the Commission, Babatunde Osibodu, released a statement on Tuesday in Abeokuta, stating that the election will take place from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Interested candidates are required to obtain nomination forms from the commission by no later than Tuesday, October 22, 2024, as outlined in the statement.

The official communication reads: “In line with Section 10 (1) of the Ogun State Electoral Law 2007, the community is hereby notified that elections for the positions of Chairmen of the 20 Local Governments and Councilors of the 236 Wards of Ogun State of Nigeria are scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024, between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm.

“All prospective candidates must collect Nomination Forms for the Local Government Council Elections from the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) headquarters at Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, no later than Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

”The deadline for the submission of completed forms is Friday, November 1, 2024.

“Intending candidates, political parties, and other stakeholders are urged to follow the Guidelines for Local Government Elections issued by the Commission.

”These Guidelines can be accessed at the offices of Electoral Officers in the twenty (20) Local Government Areas of Ogun State and at the Commission’s headquarters, Oke-Ilewo,
Abeokuta.

”The names of successful candidates will be made public by November 4, 2024; those candidates will be considered eligible to participate in the elections”.

All relevant parties have been encouraged to cooperate with and assist the commission to ensure a transparent, impartial, and trustworthy electoral process.
