Journalists urged by Taraba governor to boost efficiency through digital technology

Encouraging journalists to leverage digital technology for improved efficiency in their roles within a rapidly evolving media environment, Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas addressed attendees at the 2024 News Summit of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria in Jalingo, the capital city.

Speaking at the event, Kefas, represented by his deputy Aminu Alkali, emphasized the importance of embracing the opportunities arising from technological advancements and social media for more effective news and information dissemination.

He highlighted, “In a time characterized by swift technological progress, changing audience expectations, and evolving journalistic methods, the significance of news production cannot be overstated.”

Kefas stressed the need for journalists to not only adapt to these changes but also capitalize on the opportunities afforded by advancing technologies.

Underlining the summit’s theme, ‘News Production in a Transitional Media Landscape,’ he pointed out the significant shift in the media landscape over the past decade due to the emergence of digital platforms, reshaping news gathering, reporting, and consumption.

Recognizing the media’s crucial role in promoting democracy and good governance, Kefas affirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives that empower a vibrant, independent, and ethical press.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mohammed Bulama, the Director General of FRCN, reiterated the organization’s dedication to revamping its operations and enhancing content quality through cutting-edge technology.

He emphasized, “The growing influence of technology in revolutionizing news production, together with the emergence of digital platforms, has democratized information dissemination, enabling news to reach audiences worldwide in real-time.”

Expressing gratitude to the governor and the Commissioner for Information and Re-orientation, Zainab Jalingo, for their support in hosting the summit, Bulama encouraged participants to seize the valuable opportunities presented during the event.
