Legislation in Nasarawa focuses on enhancing welfare for NAYEA staff for revenue growth

At the Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA), a bill targeting the improvement of welfare benefits for Nasarawa Youth Empowerment Agency (NAYEA) personnel and the augmentation of revenue generation has progressed past its second reading.

During the recent plenary session, the bill, initiated by Mr. Solomon Akwashiki (SDP, Lafia), was deliberated, with Speaker Danladi Jatau highlighting its advancement.

Emphasizing the bill’s potential to empower young individuals through diverse skill acquisition initiatives upon enactment, Jatau commended Akwashiki and fellow lawmakers for their valuable contributions, stressing the bill’s significance for the state’s progress.

“I am assigning this bill to the House standing committee on Youth and Sports for further deliberation and a report back to the House by August 21, 2024.

“The committee is mandated to incorporate the varied inputs and suggestions from members into their report, and I anticipate a comprehensive assessment,” he mentioned.

In his presentation of the bill, Mr. Solomon Akwashiki delineated its objectives, which encompass providing adult education and vocational skills for youths and other inhabitants of the state.

Akwashiki underscored that the bill would pave the way for job creation and elevate revenue generation for the state administration.

Advocating for his colleagues’ support in passing the bill, he expressed, “This legislation will integrate adult education and the establishment of vocational skills for youths, among other aspects.

“It will cultivate job opportunities and bolster the state’s financial resources.”

The lawmakers, including Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa’ad, Suleiman Azara, Daniel Ogazi, Musa Ibrahim Musa Saidu Gude, and Mohammed Garba Isimbabi, wholeheartedly endorsed the bill, concurring that it could mitigate the hardships faced by the youth in Nasarawa State.

They also advocated for enhanced welfare provisions for NAYEA workforce to ensure efficient service delivery.
