Legal action taken against two individuals for N80m scam

In a recent development, the Lagos State Police Command brought charges against Sunday Oladapo and Kafayat Oyelakin before Magistrate Folarin Williams at the Ebutte Meta Magistrate Court in Lagos, accusing them of posing as medical professionals and deceiving Sola Ajose into parting with N80m.

The duo faced a total of seven charges including false representation, conspiracy to commit a felony, and obtaining money under false pretenses from Sola Ajose, a resident of Jakande Estate in Lagos.

During the court proceedings, the police prosecutor, Austin Nwabuisi, presented a remand warrant and disclosed that Oladapo, the first defendant, masqueraded as a qualified medical practitioner. He falsely diagnosed Ajose with diabetes and administered ineffective treatments, ultimately causing complications that required Ajose to seek medical attention abroad.

Nwabuisi also revealed that the second defendant colluded with Oladapo to extract the N80m from Ajose in multiple transactions, all based on deceit.

The incident occurred on October 12, 2023, at Jakande Estate, leading to the immediate disappearance of the defendants. Nwabuisi requested the court to detain them pending further instructions from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them.

Magistrate Williams granted them bail and instructed the duplication of their case files for review by the Office of the Directorate of Prosecutions.

Oladapo was granted bail set at N2m with two reliable sureties, while Oyelakin’s bail was fixed at N1m with similar conditions.

The case has been scheduled for further hearing on July 9, 2024.
