Lawyer writes Tinubu, demands investigation into Tudun Biri bombing, payment of ‘Diyya’

The demand for an investigation into the Tudun Biri bombing and the payment of ‘Diyya’ has been made by a lawyer in an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The lawyer, Bello Galadi, who is a former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association in Zamfara State, urged President tinubu to set up a high-powered panel of inquiry to look into the circumstances surrounding the bombing. The panel, as suggested by the lawyer, should consist of individuals with unquestionable integrity and the findings should be made public.

In the letter, the lawyer emphasized the sanctity of human life as recognized by the Constitution of Nigeria and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He also pressed for the payment of ‘Diyya’ to the families of the victims, along with other measures such as providing education scholarships for the victims’ children, rebuilding the Tudun Biri Community and ensuring the provision of basic infrastructure.

Furthermore, the lawyer urged for the suspension of pending investigations of key government officials in connection to the incident and called for the prosecution of anyone indicted by the panel. He stressed the importance of not politicizing the issue and urged for prioritizing safety and security over political considerations.

The letter also highlighted the need for President Tinubu to visit the families of the victims, address the nation on the Tudun Biri killings, and declare national mourning. Additionally, it called for an overhaul of the security architecture through training, re-training, and providing modern gadgets for security personnel.

The lawyer concluded by urging various organizations and authorities, including the National Assembly, the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigeria Governors Forum, and others to conduct independent probes into the killings. The lawyer’s plea underlines the gravity of the situation and the need for comprehensive and transparent investigations into the tragic event.
