Laws are not made in AGF’s office – Governor Akeredolu replies Malami on declaration of Amotekun as illegal

Governor Akeredolu Hits Back at Malami Over Amotekun Declaration

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has directly responded to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federarion (AGF) Abubakar Malami’s declaration of the South-West security outfit, Amotekun, as illegal.

In an interview on Channels Television, the Ondo state governor emphasized that laws are not made in the office of the AGF. He highlighted that the AGF’s role is to interpret the laws and provide advice to the FG on legal matters.

Akeredolu disclosed that he and his colleagues are yet to convene and formalize a stance on Malami’s statement. He stated,

“One thing is clear, laws are not made in the office of the Attorney General. He can only interpret the laws and give government positions on legal matters.

“When he presents relevant portions of the law on the matter, we will consider it and respond appropriately as the law dictates.

“We have not met, but I can assure you that when we do, we will respond adequately to the AGF’s position.”
