This event is a key feature in Lagos’ cultural schedule, celebrating the rich maritime heritage of the state and serving as a platform for the display of traditional boat races and cultural performances.

Participants from all the five divisions of Lagos usually gather for this event.

As seen on its website, the state Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture stated that “the rescheduling of the event is part of the government’s initiative to ensure maximum participation and enjoyment for all attendees.”

The ministry assured all stakeholders and Lagos residents that the new date will allow for better planning and preparation, promising a memorable experience for everyone.

In a statement, it was mentioned, “The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, as the coordinating body for the event, apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the postponement and assures that a fresh date for the Lagos State Boat Regatta will be announced soon.”

The ministry expressed gratitude to all participants, stakeholders, and sponsors for their understanding and flexibility in light of the unexpected change.

Prior to this, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture in the state, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, emphasized that the Lagos Boat Regatta would provide an avenue for Lagosians to come together and showcase the aquatic beauty of the state.

The commissioner highlighted the state government’s commitment to positioning Lagos as the top tourism destination in Africa, with the regatta serving as a platform to promote the beaches and hospitality establishments along the waters.

Additionally, the Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, emphasized that the focus of the Regatta would be on the local fishing communities and the ancillary benefits that can be derived from the event.
