About the Arrest

Authorities from the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended three individuals suspected to be part of a one-chance robbery syndicate.

The disclosure was made in an official statement posted on the command’s social media account on Saturday.

The term ‘one chance’ is commonly used in Nigeria to describe a type of robbery where criminals disguise themselves as commercial drivers, pick up unsuspecting passengers, and subsequently rob them.

The statement mentioned, “Lagos Police operatives, in response to a distress call regarding a one-chance incident, carried out a rescue operation and successfully rescued an individual named Abisola Taiwo ‘f’.

“Furthermore, the operatives apprehended other members of the gang: Mayowa Akinjide ‘m’, aged 44; Aghama Ikponmwen ‘m’, aged 46; and Ahmed Jaleola ‘m.’ The investigation is currently ongoing.”

Earlier in the week, the police had also arrested a suspected ringleader of a one-chance robbery, Ndubisi George, aged 49, who was operating within Itire, Aguda, Cele, and Surulere.

In a separate incident in January, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority had detained a three-man ‘one-chance’ gang at Jubilee Bridge in the Abule-Egba area of the state.

The gang members were apprehended while being pursued by members of the public, who had observed them pushing a man out of their vehicle after robbing him of his belongings.
