Driver in Lagos arrested for putting children in car

An individual driving a Volkswagen Passat car was apprehended by the Rapid Response Squad operatives from the Lagos State Police Command. The driver had packed 15 children into the vehicle, with four of them locked inside the car trunk while the other 11 were crammed together for a trip to the beach. This incident was reported by concerned citizens on the Lekki–Ikoyi Link Bridge around 8 p.m. on Sunday, as revealed in a statement by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the State Public Relations Officer, at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja.

Upon investigation, it was found that one child had previously collapsed during the day due to the same transportation conditions but had recovered after receiving medical attention. The children have since been handed over to their parents, while the driver will face legal charges, according to Hundeyin.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, praised the residents of Lagos State for their prompt reporting of suspicious activities, said the PPRO.

In a separate incident, the state police rescued three toddlers—two boys and a girl aged between two and four years—who were allegedly confined in a room in Agodo-Egbe, Ikotun. The children had reportedly been locked up by their grandmother, Fatimo Ganiyu. Concerned community members who noticed their absence alerted the authorities immediately on Wednesday.
