Kuje prison plans security beef-up amid rising insecurity

The Nigerian Correctional Service has revealed plans to enhance security at its Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja, amidst the growing insecurity in the country. Adamu Duza, the spokesperson for the FCT Command, disclosed this information to NewsNow. The surging insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory has become evident with the recent abduction of six sisters and their father by bandits in the Bwari Area Council, leading to the tragic death of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar. A report by Beacon Consulting Ltd highlighted that a total of 519 persons were abducted across various regions in Nigeria, with the FCT ranking third in the states with the highest number of abductees. The frequency of abductions in neighboring areas has raised concerns about potential attacks on educational institutions and custodial centers. In light of the risk of a reoccurrence of the July 5, 2022 jailbreak at the Kuje Custodial Centre, the Nigerian Correctional Service is collaborating with other security agencies to bolster security in and around its custodial centers in the nation’s capital. Presently, various security agencies are stationed at the facilities to ensure their safety, including the Nigerian Army, DSS, Mopol, NPF/CTU, NSCDC, and NIS. The collaboration aims to reassure the public that all custodial centers under the command are secure and peaceful.
