Katsina Government Relaxes Curfew in Dutsinma LG Amid Protest

In response to the ongoing situation, the Katsina Government in Nigeria has made the decision to ease the 24-hour curfew that was previously imposed in the Dutsinma Local Government Area of the state.

A statement released by the Director of Media in the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaj Abdullahi Aliyu-Yar’adua, confirmed this development on Monday in Katsina.

Acting governor of the state, Alhaji Faruq Jobe, sanctioned the adjustment of the curfew hours, now running from 7pm to 7am. This decision follows a positive update on the improved security situation in the area.

Earlier, a state-wide curfew from 7pm to 7am had been implemented across all 34 local government areas due to violent incidents that erupted following a hunger protest on Thursday.

During a meeting of the state security council, Jobe emphasized the continuation of the ban on gatherings and protests deemed unusual.

The acting governor praised the security agencies for handling the situation with professionalism, especially in dealing with troublemakers who took advantage of the peaceful protest to engage in criminal activities.

Appreciation was also expressed towards parents, guardians, and community leaders who advised the youth against participating in unlawful activities.

Furthermore, the state security council disclosed that several youths linked to the recent violence, looting, and property damage have been apprehended.

Secretary to the State Government, Alhaj Abdullahi Garba-Faskari, mentioned that some of the arrested individuals have already been charged with various offenses including criminal conspiracy, public disturbance, vandalism, and theft.

Garba-Faskari reiterated the council’s call for the populace to maintain calmness and adherence to the law.
