English model and TV presenter, Katie Piper, was taken to the hospital for an emergency operation after her husband spotted a black spot in her eye.
Known for her advocacy for acid attack victims, Piper shared a photo of her bandages on Instagram, detailing how she became aware of the issue.
Her condition worsened, and she experienced extreme pain and nausea, leading to her urgent hospitalization.
She described the situation as follows:
Emergency Operation for me!
On Saturday, my husband noticed a small black circle in my blind eye. I was thrilled, thinking I had a pupil again. However, by Sunday, my left eye was extremely painful and couldn’t tolerate light. I patched it up, attributing it to old injuries. I’m used to some level of discomfort, so I went to work.
By Sunday night, I felt nauseous and experienced extreme pain. I contacted my eye specialist, @sherazdaya @centreforsightuk, and unfortunately, he confirmed that the black circle was a hole in my eye which had perforated. It had always been a fear that this would happen.
Yesterday @sherazdaya sourced tissue for me and operated on me. I cannot thank him and his team enough for their knowledge, expertise, and kindness. Following an acid attack by a former partner and an accomplice, Katie became blind in one eye. The perpetrators, Daniel Lynch and Stefan Sylvestre, received life sentences for the crime, although Sylvestre was released on parole in 2018.
One year after the attack, Katie opted to forgo her anonymity to raise awareness for acid attack victims.
