Kano State Government’s Allegation against Police

In a press briefing in Kano, the Kano State Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi, accused some individuals of plotting to instigate chaos and disrupt the peace in the state.

Specifically, Dederi raised concerns about the actions of certain groups and politicians who he claimed were working to create unnecessary turmoil in Kano.

He further alleged that the state police command was undermining the authority of the governor by issuing orders without proper consultation.

One such order was the banning of Eid-el Kabir festivities in Kano, a decision that the governor only learned about through social media.

Expressing dismay at the lack of coordination between the police and the governor’s office, Dederi questioned the motives behind such actions.

Referencing recent events, Dederi highlighted the State House of Assembly’s passing of the Emirates Council repeal bill, which the governor approved after consulting various stakeholders.

He also mentioned a Federal High Court ruling on the deposition of the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, which raised issues of infringement on his rights.

While announcing the state’s intention to appeal the court’s decision, Dederi refuted claims of violating Bayero’s rights and emphasized the governor’s duty to uphold law and order.

Gumel, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, rebutted the accusations, stating that he has always respected the governor’s authority and worked towards maintaining peace and security in the state.

He defended his record of promoting community safety and urged the public to judge him based on his actions.

Notably, the police command had prohibited the traditional Sallah Durbar as part of efforts to ensure peace during the Eid-el Kabir celebrations in the state.

Gumel emphasized the need for compliance with existing court orders and called for cooperation from all parties involved in the Kano Emirates dispute to foster a safer environment.
